Why are my generated document headers/footers not what I expect them to be?

Known issue: Microsoft online editors convert ShareDo content controls in headers and footers to text when ShareDo document templates are edited and saved.

Issue

When document templates with content controls in the headers or footers are edited using Word online, the content controls may be converted to plain text when the document is saved. Any output documents subsequently generated that are based on that template will display the content controls in the header/footer as text rather than display the corresponding data from ShareDo.

Resolution

Avoid editing ShareDo document templates in Microsoft online editors. Instead, open them via the Word desktop app. Generally, where you can open the file from within ShareDo, use the Open in app option.

For example, in Document Admin > Template Explorer

When opening a document template via the burger menu, the following option is available:

Use the Open in app option to avoid any issues. If this option is not currently enabled, please contact ShareDo to have it enabled.

ShareDo will be upgraded shortly to automatically enable this option by default and apply it to all functions in Document Admin where document templates can be opened.
