Important Update: ShareDo officially became Clio Operate in March 2026. For all existing users, accessing your Clio Operate/ShareDo product is still via the same URLs and logins as provided at set up -- there are no changes to your hosting domain. Some instances of ShareDo may appear in how-to guides or video tutorials as we transition our resources to our new branding.
Once you have created both your Instruction and Matter type, you will need to create a relationship between them. This will allow the Instruction to be converted to that particular Matter type.
Open Modeller > Work Types and navigate to your Instruction.
Click on the Type Relationships option in the left-hand navigation.
Click on the Link Parent or Link Child button at the top right to add a new relationship.
Complete the form.
Parent Type
This should be your instruction work type.
Child Type
This should be your matter type.
Relationship Type
The following out-of-the-box Relationship Types are available by default. Additionally, configurators can define custom Relationship Types via the Work Type Relationships area in Modeller
The precise purpose of each Relationship Type may vary between solutions, as implementations differ. However, the standard behaviours for each type are outlined below.
Parent-Child
The most commonly used Relationship Type. Work Types can be configured to require or permit the creation of work items with or without a parent. For example, Tasks may be configured as children of a Matter, and a Matter as a child of a Statement of Work.
Linked Case
The Relationship Type used during the conversion process between Instructions and Matters. Note that converted items will ultimately also form a Parent-Child relationship.
Related, Lead Case, and Linked Case (Manual)
These types enable users to manually associate work items with one another, for example, via the Case Explorer widget or through a workflow.
Created
This Relationship Type is established when using the Create Work Item command. Within that command, the setting “Set current work item as created from” designates the originating work item, resulting in a Created relationship between the two.
Merged Work Items
This Relationship Type is automatically created between work items that are combined using the Work Item Merge feature.
Preferred Statement of Work
This Relationship Type is established when a Statement of Work is selected on an Instruction.
Regarding
This Relationship Type is created when replying to an Inbound Email, linking the original inbound message to the corresponding Outbound Email reply.
